Dune
There are some books that are classified as light reading. In these books, one word follows another, tripping merrily through the narrative. Dune is not one of those books. In Dune, each and every word is heavy with purpose and portent. Dune is well-written and engaging, and it takes itself very seriously. Which is fine, if that's your thing. Personally, I got sick of it after 400 pages (7/8ths of the way through) and couldn't bring myself to go on.
So I went ahead and read the synopsis on Wikipedia to see how everything shook out. Which I'm glad I did, because I didn't like the ending anyway.
Dune is a classic, and for good reason. I fully acknowledge that it's an incredible piece of work. It's just not really for me.

Wow, surprised to hear it didn’t pan out for you. At least you don’t have to concern yourself with reading any further in the series!

I really wanted to like it. Maybe if I’d read it when I was younger…
